20% of companies operating in Brazil do not hire LGBT employees

A survey carried out by the recruitment and selection company Elancers showed that almost 20% of Brazilian companies still maintain a stance against hiring LGBT employees. The survey, which interviewed 10 thousand employers and was released in 2016, showed that within this number, 7% of companies would not hire a gay person “at all”, while 11% would only consider hiring if the candidate could never reach a position of visibility. In the latter, the rejection of having gay employees is due to “image association that could be negative for the company”. Alexandre Nunes, Director of Elancers, assesses that Brazilian contractors are “quite conservative”. “They always prefer candidates within the 'politically correct' standard, whether in the way they dress, speak or even their sexual orientation,” he says. The research also revealed that out-of-the-closet gays are only welcomed in companies such as industry, fashion or interior design.
