4 in 10 LGBT+ people are victims of sexual violence in Iran

The Iranian LGBT+ Organization 6Rang released a survey that shocked the world and revealed that 4 in 10 Iranian LGBTs are victims of sexual violence.

“The results of this research show that sexual violence and abuse in the family and in public spaces, workplaces and educational settings are often silenced without punishment and accountability for the perpetrators,” stated the organization's Executive Director.

“This community is even more deprived of the protection of the law and the judiciary than women. On the other hand, if they go to the police, they could be victims of concerted violence because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, or face criminal charges.”

The research was carried out with LGBT people who were mostly under 35 years of age and found that 62% of them suffered one or more types of violence from their family. Already a third of the cases declared that they had experienced sexual violence and 77% had suffered physical violence.
