5th. Bahia Gay Pride Parade celebrates the fight against homophobia; event takes place this Sunday

This weekend, we will, in fact, find out what the Bahian has! And apparently, there is a lot. For those who believe that Bahia is only lively during Carnival, this week there is a nice surprise: It is also lively during gay parade week. This year, the parade tries to combat homophobia by taking the theme to the streets: Your respect is the soul [the key; the cement, the basis] of combating homophobia. “Homophobia needs to be classified as a crime in Brazil. Including strict laws that classify all attackers of homosexuals and other minorities as criminals, which punish all those who do not respect the right to difference”, said the NGO GGB (Grupo Gay da Bahia), in a statement. Another good news this year is safety precautions. It is known that gay parades in Brazil suffer from problems of petty theft of cell phones, digital cameras and the like. The Bahia stop, in particular, has this problem. However, this year, a thousand military police men were assigned to provide security for the event. In addition to the Military Police, the Civil Police will set up three police stations along the event route in the vicinity of Campo Grande, Avenida Sete de Setembro and Carlos Gomes. The change will be important to support the PM's actions and, thus, the route taken by patrols taking people to custody becomes shorter and more efficient. AV Pride Parade of Gays, Lesbians, Transvestites and Transsexuals of Bahia takes place on September 3rd (Sunday) with gatherings starting at 12pm in Praça do Campo Grande. The march will follow the entire carnival route in the center of Salvador. Participate and bring all your energy to the fight against homophobia.
