70% of Rio tourists approve of the city as a gay-friendly destination

The Cesgranrio Foundation in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro Tourism Research and Studies Institute, a body of the RJ Tourism Ambassadors Association, carried out a survey in six neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, from January 2nd to 20th, with around 700 LGBT international tourists.

According to work coordinator Bayard Boiteux, the aim was to identify the tourist profile and, based on the data, create specific policies to improve service, as this type of traveler spends on average two to three times more than a straight tourist.

According to the research, 75% of the LGBT public who visit Rio are men and, for the most part, have higher education.

A positive aspect for the city is that around 70% of those interviewed named Rio as a gay friendly city.

Regarding negative aspects, 35% of tourists pointed out the lack of information about the segment, while 24% complained about security.
