Sleeping Beauty: In adaptation, princess is woken up with a kiss from Snow White

In the children's book Beauty and the Sleeper, the protagonist Sleeping Beauty she is not rescued by a prince – whoever wakes her from her sleep with a kiss is Snow White. The new reinterpretation of classic fairy tales was written by the master of fantasy Neil Gaiman and designed by Chris Riddell, children's book illustrator and cartoonist for The Observer newspaper.

In this new and dark version, a young queen about to get married sets out on a journey, in the company of three dwarves, to a distant kingdom where, according to rumors, a bewitched princess sleeps eternal sleep. In an interview with the Telegraph, the writer said: "I have no patience with stories where women are rescued by men. You don't need to be saved by a prince."

Gaiman is known for writing the comic book Sandman in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as writing bestsellers such as The Ocean at the End of the Road (2013), The Cemetery Book (2008) and american gods (2001)

Riddell has extensive work as illustrator and is known for the trilogy Otolina no Mar (2010), Otolina na Escola (2008) and Otolina e a Gata Amarela (2007), for example.

Beauty and the Sleeping Girl hits stores from Rocco Jovens Leitores on November 7th, costing R$49,50. The translation is by Renata Pettengil.
