“The traditional family no longer exists”, says Klecius Borges

In a somber atmosphere, natural at Livraria da Vila, in São Paulo, psychologist Klecius Borges launched his second book, "Affirmative Therapy – An introduction to psychology and psychotherapy aimed at gays, lesbians and bisexuals". It is a theory that rejects the treatment of homosexuality as a disease and gives light to diversity on the couch. Klecius was one of the first to bring the idea to Brazil.

In Alameda Lorena, people were surrounded by Dostoevsky, stared at by Virginia Woolf and analyzed by Lacan. Well, that's how it is at Livraria da Vila, we are surrounded by paper and dark wood. And, in addition to the illustrious "presences" already mentioned, friends of the writer and psychoanalyst, fans, co-workers and even Mike, Klecius' Wippet dog, also attended, who got his copy signed.

At around 19:30 pm the atmosphere was already very lively and warmed by Terra Nova white wine, 2008 vintage. Among the audience was Edith Modesto, founder of the Group of Parents of Homosexual Children (GPH). “Can I take a photo?” asked the report. "Only if it's a really pretty photo," said Edith. "At the University of Chigaco there is a collection of the newspaper 'O Lampião' (a gay publication from the 80s)", anthropologist and doctoral candidate Jay Sosa, who is in Brazil studying gay "ethnology", told the report.

The autograph night program included a chat with Klecius Borges at 20pm. “Are there really going to be a debate?” asked an illustrious stranger. Convinced by Edith, Klecius agreed to have a quick chat. All those present were taken to the amphitheater. In the quick conversation that lasted just over ten minutes, Rosangela Justino, the one who swears to "cure" gay people, was the topic. “It does not start from a scientific understanding but from a religious dogma”, said the author about Justino.

Klecius also spoke about the class of psychologists, who, according to him, are still very unprepared to deal clinically with homosexuality. In addition to the homo identity, Klecius was asked about the clinic for transsexuals, and he didn't mince words. "When we come out of homosexuality, the cases are really treated as a gender disorder," he explained.

Finally, the subject turned to homoparental families. "Many psychologists understand gay couples, but when they say they are going to adopt a child, their attitude changes." For the psychologist, the class needs to recognize same-sex families. "The traditional family as we knew it no longer exists and homoparental families are a reality", concluded Borges.

Before anyone asked another question, Klecius was emphatic. "Well, guys, I think it's good, right? Nobody came here to watch a lecture. Let's go back to where we were." Many of those present agreed. “It’s a blast, let’s go back and have wine,” shouted one participant. The autograph night ended around 21:30 pm.
