Opening of the II State LGBT Conference in São Paulo is marked by protests; watch

The II State LGBT Conference in São Paulo began last Friday (28), which continues until Sunday (30). Activists from the state of São Paulo will debate public policies and analyze what has and has not been applied by the government since 2008, when the first edition of the event was held and a state plan to combat homophobia was drawn up.

However, the opening of the conference was marked by protests and arguments between activists and public authorities. The reason is that around 80 activists could not stay in the same hotel where the meeting takes place, as registrations had disappeared from the online system.

Firstly, participants without registration could not even attend the opening ceremony, which, after much confusion, was approved by the organizers. At around 19:40 pm, the public was called to watch speeches by representatives of the social movement and the government of the State of São Paulo.

The first to speak was the coordinator of LGBT public policies for the State of São Paulo, Heloisa Alves. Much booed, the coordinator declared that she was speaking as a lesbian and not a manager and promised that at the end of the opening of the event the problems with the activists from the interior of the state would be resolved.

Still, the atmosphere remained tense until the end of the opening of the II State LGBT Conference in São Paulo. Below you can see an exclusive video from the website The Cape the protest of the activists and the speech by Heloisa Alves.
