A+D: The Mash-Up Kings of San Francisco

If in the classic film "Curtindo a Vida Madoidado" the characters refer to Abe Fromen, the "Sausage King of Chicago", in real life we have the duo A+D, "The Mash-Up Kings of San Francisco ".

A+D are Adrian & Mysterious D. Adrian is a rock singer turned DJ, who adopts a cross-dresser look: a mix of Boy George and Marilyn Manson. Mysterious D is a party girl turned DJ. Together, they created the project in 2001.

The idea is to explore the endless universe of mash-ups – mixes that combine two or more songs on the same track. Generally, the vocals of one track are used over the instrumental base of the other, but alternations may also occur throughout the mix.

In 2003, the duo created Bootie, the first party in the world where only mash-ups are heard. Throughout the countless editions, the public was able to hear the most unlikely partnerships on the planet: Michael Jackson with Deee-Lite, Michael with Nirvana, Blondie with The Doors, Cher with ACDC, Lady Gaga with Linkin Park...

Since then, Bootie has had editions in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Munich, Boston, Berlin and Brisbane, Australia, in addition to live PAs that the duo does around the world – even in Brazil. Last May, they performed at the Grind Sunday party, at the São Paulo nightclub A Lôca, and at the Fosfobox club, in Rio de Janeiro.

Some mash-ups are absolutely brilliant, like "Don't You Want My Bad Romance", which mixes Human League with Lady Gaga. Or the combination of "Rapture", by Blondie, with "Riders on the Storm", by the Doors. Or even Madonna singing "Music" based on Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough".

Judging by the public reaction on today's dance floors, the mash-up is here to stay and is a strong trend in pop music of the future. And that future has already arrived. To learn more about the duo's fantastic work, visit official site.
