Provocative, current, impactful and at the same time sensitive!

+Golden Globes: Musical and gay drama lead nominations; Check out the list!

Three levels of narratives and three stories told at the same time. This is one of the main things you need to know when you enter the movie theater to watch the new movie. Tom Ford competing for the Golden Globe nthe Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor categories.

In an intense script of actions, the designer returns to the screen with Nocturnal Animals, Based on the book Tony & Susan, by Austin Wright, published in 1993.

The film begins with an impact: obese, naked women dance sensually. A resounding provocation from Ford – who was once the creative director of Saint Laurent and Gucci – to current beauty standards. The provocations don't stop there, always with a game of forces led by the characters of Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal. “I am extremely careful not to connect my messages in cinema with fashion. The character played by Amy is very fashionable, but that is part of her character and not necessarily part of my past”, explains Ford.

The thriller centers on frustrated Susan Morrow (Amy), an art gallery owner who questions the real meaning of her work and who is experiencing turbulence in her marriage. The past knocks on her door when she receives the manuscript of a book that will be published by her ex-husband, Edward (Gyllenhaal), dedicated to her. In the story, Tony Hastings takes his wife (played by Amy's almost twin sister, actress Isla Fisher) and his daughter (Ellie Bamber) on a vacation, but the trip takes a cruel turn when the family crosses paths with a gang. on a deserted Texas highway.

Memories of the separation and some painful truths of the failed relationship resurface when reading the pages of the work inspired by his own life. A mix of Edward's revenge and Susan's guilt come together as the present, the past and a fictional plan – that of reading the novel – are interspersed until the end of the drama. A bold narration that deserves the viewer’s full attention.

The visual aesthetics, photography and costumes remain impeccable, just as in his first feature film Direito de Amar, released in 2009. However, what Animals Nocturnos brings in its essence is Ford's cinephile passion, which demonstrates that he is leading ( well!) take the job of director seriously. Pay special attention to the scenes that translate the pages of Tony's book onto Texas roads. There's an unusual scent of David Lynch in the air.

Nocturnal Animals won the Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and premieres in Brazil on December 29th. Worth checking out!
