After 2 years in prison, after being tortured and sexually violated, Verônica Bolina gains freedom

Verônica Bolina's case gained national attention in 2015, after photos of the transvestite with a disfigured face circulated on social media. Arrested, accused of trying to physically attack an elderly woman in the building where she lived on Rua Frei Caneca, in São Paulo, Verônica was released last week. At the time of the events, Verônica was raped by the police who, after attacking her, released photos of her disfigured face, with her hair cut and parts of her body exposed. Bolina was also accused of attacking another trans woman and biting off half of a police officer's ear with her mouth. To G1, she told that it was not her who was acting that way but “someone else” who “controlled” her. “I heard a voice that told me: 'I want the ear'. When the voice spoke from the ear, I was like a dog and I was already in the ear”, said Bolina, who gained freedom after being diagnosed with a personality disorder. She also revealed that the violence against the agent was a reaction to a kick she received from him. According to her report, in addition to the physical attacks, she was the victim of sexual violence with a broomstick. Due to the torture, one of her breasts was injured. Free, Verônica says that she intends to write a book and delve even deeper into spiritualism, a doctrine that she learned about during the time she was imprisoned. The police officers accused of torturing her remain under investigation, awaiting trial.
