After coming out as homosexual, Ricky Martin says he is stronger than ever

After admitting his homosexuality, last Monday (29/03), singer Ricky Martin thanked his fans for their support on his Twitter. There, the Puerto Rican said he was stronger than ever.

"My dears, thank you very much. I feel your affection. I'm fine, stronger than ever. I'm at home, enjoying your messages", he wrote on the microblog.

Members of Puerto Rico's gay community already think of the singer as a possible leader of the LGBT cause. More thoughtfully, the editor of the website "OrgulloBoricua.net", Mario Rodríguez, states that it may be too early for Ricky to represent the community, as he has just "come out of the closet".

"There is a sector that wants him to lead the cause. There are those who want him to be an activist," Mario told Efe. According to the editor, Ricky Martin's sexual orientation was nothing new to anyone in Puerto Rico, but he agreed "that this is a process that could take years."

For Pedro Julio Serrano, a human rights activist from Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin's attitude was a source of pride on the island. "I feel proud that Ricky Martin announces that he is one of our own. It is a glorious day for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities of Puerto Rico," he said.
