Jack Woolley, taekwondo fighter, came out as bisexual at age 17 in a documentary Road to Rio (RTÉ) and since then things haven't been the same for him. Today, at 21 years old, he reported in an interview with Extra.ie that some opponents don't even greet him before they fight.

The Irish athlete, who has confirmed his presence at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, said that his sport is “difficult”, because many of his colleagues come from different backgrounds, so “you can’t be so open about it [his sexual orientation] ”.

“Some, however, one of the top fighters in the world came to shake my mother after I won European silver,” he said. “Most people don’t care and they shouldn’t care.”

Woolley also reported that his approach to dealing with biphobia in sports is “I'll have a problem with you if you have one with me”. “Maybe it will do something good, maybe it will be an inspiration for young people.”
