After three years, the film “Elvis and Madonna” hits theaters

Three years late, the film "Elvis and Madona", directed by Marcelo Laffitte, hits theaters on August 12th.

The film tells the story of Madona (Igor Cotrim), a transvestite hairdresser, and Elvis (Simone Spoladore), a photographer who works as a motorcycle girl. After meeting, Elvis and Madona develop a loving relationship and begin to deal with prejudice from the gay community and also from society as a whole, which does not understand the affection between a lesbian and a transvestite.

The film premiered in 2009 at the Mix Brasil Festival and since then the director was looking for sponsors so that it could be distributed. At one point, Laffitte even commented that the film might not be released in theaters, however, the production was well received at national and international festivals.

In addition to the great direction, the film features impeccable performances by Simone Spoladore and Igor Cotrim, who manage to play two complex characters without falling into an easy stereotype. It is also worth highlighting the quick appearance of Maitê Proença, who plays Elvis' mother. The scene in which Spoladore's character takes Madonna to introduce her to her mother is among the best in the film.

Here you can check out an interview with actor Igor Cotrim at the premiere of the film and here you read the review made by the website The Cape about "Elvis and Madonna".
