Egyptian presenter arrested after interviewing a gay man

One of Egypt's courts sentenced presenter Mohammed al Ghaity to one year in prison last Sunday (20), for “contempt of religion, debauchery and propagating homosexuality”, after inviting a young gay man to his program.

In addition to being sentenced to one year in prison, he must also pay a fine of 3.000 Egyptian pounds, which amounts to around R$626,72, and one year of supervision, but an appeal can still be made to a higher court.

According to Efe Agency, the complaint came from Egyptian lawyer Samir Sabry, who went to the Attorney General's Office to inform that Ghaity totally avoided the laws and contradicted the most basic religious rules and pillars.

“The presenter started asking a lot of questions, and they were all dirty and low-level. The live responses were all worse and cannot be broadcast on television or other media outlets”, commented the lawyer.
