On the eve of the vote, the government calls on allies to vote against the “gay cure” project

The project called "gay cure" comes to a vote in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies next Wednesday (03). Meanwhile, the government mobilizes allies to completely reject the proposal, authored by deputy João Campos (PSDB-GO), which provides psychological treatment with the aim of reversing homosexuality.

Rejection of the project depends on a simple majority of votes. A minimum quorum of 257 deputies is enough to vote on the measure. Rejection or approval of the text occurs by a simple majority of those present.

"The Chamber reflects the sensitivity of society. Brazil follows the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), which excludes the interpretation of sexual orientation with a disease bias. We hope that the project is rejected by the Chamber. The important thing is to reject and prevent the project from continuing to be processed in the House", declared the minister of the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Maria do Rosário, to Agencia Brasil.

Representative Ivan Valente (SP), leader of Psol in the Chamber, promised to present on Tuesday (02) a request to approve the project as a matter of urgency. If approved, the text goes straight to the plenary, with more chances of rejection, without going through the Social Security and Family and Constitution, Justice and Citizenship committees.

The outrageous project came to be approved by the Chamber's Human Rights Commission, chaired by pastor and deputy Marco Feliciano (PSC-SP).
