The lives of black LGBT people also matter, argues Billy Porter

Black lives matter. And let's not forget that LGBT people can also be black – and vice versa.

And the Emmy-winning actor Billy Porter – the first black and gay person to win the award in the category of actor in a drama series for pose – came out in support of demonstrations against racism in the United States, and without forgetting his brothers and sisters in the LGBT community.

“The black community’s relationship with LGBT people is appalling at best and frighteningly similar to that of white supremacists against black people,” the actor said in the video.

“Listen to me, black people, and listen to me well. I'm calling you all right here, right now. You cannot expect our demands for equality to be the subject of public policy and change when you all turn your back and inflict the same kind of hatred and protection on us.”
