Legislative Assembly of SP approves law prohibiting sexual discrimination in elevators

The Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) approved last Tuesday (15) bill 455/2010, which prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in elevators in public or private places. The law was written by state deputies Bruno Covas and Ricardo Montoro, both from the PSDB.

The approved bill amends state law 10.313/99. Another interesting fact in the approved text is that it proposes that elevators in the state of São Paulo, whether commercial or residential, contain the following message: "Any form of discrimination due to race, sex, color, origin, sexual orientation is prohibited. , gender identity, social status, age, size or presence of disability or disease not contagious through social contact when accessing the elevators of this building".

Now the law goes to sanction or veto by the governor, Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB). Despite its statewide scope, the law was born from a suggestion by Franco Reinaudo, from the Coordination of Sexual Diversity Affairs at São Paulo City Hall (Cads), lawyer Gustavo Menezes and Marcos Fernandes, coordinator of the Diversidade Tucana group.
