Actor says Benny's success was not because of his homosexuality

In an interview with Revista da TV from the newspaper "O Globo", actor Guilherme Weber, who played the acid homosexual Benny in the miniseries Queridos Amigos, declared that people didn't like his character because of his homosexuality. For the blonde, it was the boy's sincerity that caught the public's attention.

“People didn't like Benny because he was homosexual, but because he was extremely sincere. He had a kind of marginal cynicism, but at the same time, he was fascinating.” Said the actor who completed it. “He's very underground and politically incorrect, but he's an interesting guy. It brought back some of the gay culture of the 80s.”

Regarding the controversy surrounding the scene in which Benny stole a kiss from Pedro, the actor is categorical. “At no point did we stop to think that this could be considered the first gay kiss on TV.” For Weber, “people have great anxiety about gay kisses. That whole scene was very complex, it went far beyond the kiss. It was a desperate gesture from Benny, from a man in search of sublime love, he said.”

Guilherme also highlighted that in his opinion “the first gay kiss on TV will be when two men kiss, with their eyes closed and with a soundtrack in the background.”
