Porn actor who contracted HIV calls for mandatory use of condoms

After contracting the HIV virus in October, porn actor Derrick Burts (photo) went public to demand the mandatory use of condoms in the adult entertainment industry.

Known among the gay public as Derek Chambers, Burts said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that he became infected while recording a gay tape in Florida, in oral sex scenes without a condom. In addition to gay films, Burts also participated in productions aimed at straight audiences.

“Although straight actors must show negative HIV results before filming, the gay industry does not have the same restrictions, but the use of condoms is recommended”, highlights the “Los Angeles Times”.

The clinic where Burts was tested reported that the actor had contracted the virus through “personal, private activities.” Burts denies this, and has already contacted the AIDS Assistance Foundation in Los Angeles, which will hold a press conference this Wednesday (8) to discuss the actor's proposals, including the mandatory use of condoms in the porn industry.
