Brazilians are traditionally not very familiar with the sound produced in France. After all, not many bands cross the Atlantic and are successful in Brazilian lands – but the quintet The Aikiu deserves to be an exception.
Formed by Alex Aikiu (vocals), who gives the group its name, Julien Vichnievsky (keyboard), Barnabé Nuytten (bass), Nuno Cordeiro (guitar) and Tatiana Mladenovitch (drums), the band began to attract attention on Kitsuné compilations and, at the official website, declares herself influenced by new wave and electronic music.
He has already released two EPs (extended plays), Just Can't Sleep e The Red Kiss, and is preparing for the first album, scheduled for this year. While that doesn't happen, another EP has just been released: Pieces of Gold – and the gay public has plenty of reason to like the video for the title track.
Directed by Panteros, Myd and Boston Bun, the video for Pieces, released this week, features a fun and slutty montage by removing scenes from porn films with hot actors and showing, on the rest of the screen, the band members playing one with their instruments… Musicals, of course. The EP is now available for download on itunes.
