After Ruby Rose's departure from Batwoman (Warner Channel), actress Javicia leslie, 33, was recently announced as the new protagonist of the series – thus becoming the first black woman to play the character.

“I am extremely proud to be the first black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television,” Leslie wrote in a statement. “As a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking program, which has been a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.”

She will play a new protagonist, named Ryan Walder, who will take on the role of Batwoman in Gotham City.
