Biography points to Gandhi's alleged homosexuality

American historian Andrew Roberts declared that the new biography of Mahatma Gandhi, "The Great Soul", points to the non-violence activist's homosexuality. According to Roberts, the book offers ample evidence to conclude that the Indian leader was gay.

Among the controversial parts analyzed by Roberts, he highlights the scene in which the book's author, Joseph Lelyveld, from the "Wall Street Journal", reports that Gandhi slept with numerous young people under the age of 18. But the historian pays attention to the fact that Lelyveld does not make it clear whether Gandhi had any type of excitement, or passive/active relationship.

In the work, it is also said that Gandhi had only one great love in his life, which was the architect and bodybuilder Hermann Kallenbach. According to the researcher, the political activist left his wife for the architect. There are also reports of exchanges of letters between the two, where Gandhi asks Kallenbach "not to look at any woman".

There are reports that the two separated in 1914. According to the biographer, Gandhi's big dream was to end his life with the architect.
