In a Facebook post deleted a few minutes after being published, the president Jair Bolsonaro (no party) this week accused the WHO (World Health Organization) of encouraging masturbation and homosexuality in children.
The false and offensive statement was made during Bolsonaro's popularity crisis amid the new coronavirus pandemic and the president's opposition to social distancing as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus.
None of the statements made by Bolsonaro – see the post below – were accompanied by any basis.
According to reports the UOL, the excerpts cited by the president actually exist and are out of context: the information is from a booklet, published in 2010 by the Federal Center for Health Education in Germany in partnership with the European office of the WHO, on sexual education – and which is intended target audience parents and guardians of children.
