This time, the PSL candidate for Planalto became controversial when he stated that a gay reporter “looks” like someone who “painted his nails”. On the occasion, the journalist asked the deputy about a video he shared on Twitter, which shows a 4-year-old child dressed in a school uniform from the municipal network of São Paulo saying that his teacher “taught that boys wear skirts, dresses, play and paint their nails”. The teacher's interaction with the students would have taken place inside the classroom. “What is your position? Why did you retweet that?”, the reporter asked Jair Bolsonaro, who responded with the following statement: “Ask yourselves… Did you paint your nails when you were a child?” Faced with the communications professional’s refusal, the candidate stated: “You look like you’ve painted your nails.” This was not the first occasion on which Jair Bolsonaro made controversial statements on issues relating to LGBTs. The deputy, in fact, is constantly accused of engaging in homophobia.
