Brazil is the 6th country most fined by FIFA for homophobic behavior

Aiming to put an end to the homophobic behavior of fans inside stadiums in official matches, the International Football Federation (FIFA) stipulated a fine to be charged to countries if the behavior was noticed in national team games. During the qualifiers for the World Cup that will take place in Russia in 2018, Brazil ranked sixth among the countries most fined. Chile leads with 10 punishments. In the top countries that will receive the most punishments, 9 are from Latin America; only Greece – in eighth place – “disagrees” with the Latin table. The information was released by the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper and shows that, in total, Brazil was fined five times, totaling a debt of R$336 in punishments. Overall, FIFA collected R$4,3 million in fines. The Brazilian Football Confederation was punished for homophobic chants in valid matches against Colombia, Bolivia, Paraguay, Ecuador and Chile. In addition to a fine, Chile was also punished with suspension from playing at the National Stadium in Santiago, in the capital, for two games.
