Condom that eliminates 99,9% of HIV, herpes and HPV will be sold in Australia

The biotechnology company Starpharma developed a condom called VivaGel, which has an antiviral compound capable of eliminating up to 99,9% of HIV and other STDs.

She received the seal of Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration and will soon be commercialized.

The executive director of Starpharma, Jackie Fairley stated that ATGA approval is the necessary step for the product to be commercialized in a few months. In addition to being effective against HIV, condoms are also effective against herpes and the paolomavirus, better known as HPV.

In its composition, the condom has VivaGel lubrication, which is a medicine that contains 0,5% sodium astodrimer, a compound against HIV.

The condom is not expected to arrive in Brazil, but it is important to emphasize that the common condom helps with great effectiveness in combating STDs.

A survey by Global Burden of Disease showed that deaths due to HIV are decreasing in the world. In Brazil, according to the research, the number also decreased and the number of infections was stagnant. Such data differ from the recent UN report, which points out that new cases of HIV infections have increased in Brazil since 2005.
