Candidate for federal deputy, Bill Santos reveals 10 proposals for the LGBT community

Every year, the THE CAPE develops broad coverage of the political scene, giving visibility to LGBT candidates. In 2014, the site will feature 10 proposals from each candidate for the reader to evaluate according to their priorities and wishes.

The debut is Bill Santos, candidate for federal deputy in São Paulo for PSOL – number 5019. BIll was one of the voices of the São Paulo acts against the then president of the Human Rights Commission, Marco Feliciano.

In his campaign text, the candidate claims to be a human rights activist who defends a society that respects the fundamental and individual rights of socially marginalized populations, especially LGBTs, women, black people, indigenous people and people with disabilities.

Bill declares support for the secular state and believes that LGBTs will only advance their rights if they occupy politics.

The proposals follow:

-Create a project to end mandatory voting

– Prohibition of the use of crucifixes and other religious symbols in public offices

– End of tax exemption for Churches

– Create the School Project without transphobia and homophobia. An education for diversity and combating bullying

– Offer, in the various public policy sectors, training courses for public managers on the rights of the LGBT population.

– Carry out protection and prevention programs against HIV/AIDS and combat prejudice against HIV-positive people

– Defend the approval of the João W. Nery Gender Identity Law (PL 5002/2013)

– Defend the Legalization of marijuana (PL 7270/2014)

– Propose a project to criminalize transphobia and homophobia

– Create a secretary to monitor violence against people based on their gender identity or sexual orientation.
