Carlos Tufvesson runs the “Rio Without Homophobia” campaign within Fashion Rio

The "Rio without Homophobia" campaign also arrived at Fashion Rio. At Governor Sérgio Cabral's stand at the event, drag performer Melisse Ryan is welcoming guests. The hostess, who is 1,85m tall and has well-toned arms, attracts the attention of anyone passing by Píer Mauá. “My mom was proud when I said I was going to spend the week working for the state government,” Melisse said.

Another one who is hitting the spot at Rio fashion week is Carlos Tufvesson, who is part of the city's Sexual Diversity Coordination. The designer, who gave up fashion to dedicate himself exclusively to activism, launched the campaign during the opening of the event on Sunday (29). "It's my two worlds participating at the same time", declared the designer.

Tufvesson also spoke about the importance of the event supporting the campaign. "I think it's extremely important not only for an event the size of Fashion Rio to join the campaign but also the fact that it is a fashion event. It is still an environment in which people suffer prejudice", says the designer.

The "Rio Without Homophobia" campaign video is being shown before all the shows this season. Tufvesson is still collecting signatures for a manifesto. "This time, I'm going to parade through the corridors of the Pier to get signatures from my designer friends and the entire fashion crowd for a manifesto taking a public stance against prejudice", he says.

The "Rio Without Homophobia" campaign is coordinated by the Superintendency of Collective and Diffuse Individual Rights of the Superintendence of Collective and Diffuse Individual Rights of the State Secretariat for Social Assistance and Human Rights, an agency of the Government of the State of Rio.
