Minister Cármen Lúcia, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), annulled a decision of the 14th Federal Court of the Federal District that allowed the application of the “gay cure” by psychologists in Brazil.

The decision of the 14th Court was taken in response to a group of 23 professionals who filed a class action against the Resolution No. 01/99, from the Federal Council of Psychology (CFP), which prohibits the practice.

The minister, who had already suspended the decision in April/2019, now revoked the decision once and for all because the popular action requested the declaration that the CFP resolution was unconstitutional. In her order, Cármen Lúcia argued that the STF's role is to judge the constitutionality of laws.

The information is from the newspaper The Globe.
