Gay couple adopts girl rejected by ten families for having HIV

According to Extra, a gay couple who live in the province of Santa Fé, Argentina, adopted a girl who had been rejected by 10 families because she was HIV positive.

They said they took advantage of the adoption to speak to the public about the treatment of the virus. “We never had any doubts. The first thing we did was ask for permission to visit her on the same day,” said Damián. “The connection was immediate. We held her in our arms, gave her the bottle and she looked at us with her eyes wide open, without crying,” continued Vijarra.

“The treatment was with AZT, as adults do, as there are no pediatric antiretroviral drugs. She behaved like a warrior. A year and a half after she was born, infectologists confirmed that all tests were negative. She no longer had HIV, she was healthy. She was chosen by God. It’s something inexplicable,” the couple recalled.
