Gay couple from the musical “Avenue Q” gets married this Sunday in NY

A trendy wedding rocks New York this Sunday (24). Rod and Ricky, characters from the musical "Avenue Q", will join forces in a ceremony at New York City Hall, legalizing their union.

The event is, of course, a big joke by the musical's authors. Rod and Ricky are two dolls, along the lines of the famous Muppets and the characters from "Sesame Street", who are part of the cast of "Avenue Q" – in the play, actors act alongside the dolls; these, in turn, manipulated by other actors.

In the musical's plot, Ricky and Rod share an apartment on Avenue Q and end up falling in love. The play was staged in Brazil in 2009, produced by the duo Charles Möeller and Claudio Botelho.

Ricky and Rod released their engagement photo to the press and declared that after the wedding, in the morning, they will rush to the New World Stages theater to perform in the matinee of "Avenue Q", at 15pm.

In a statement to the press, Rod said: "I know there are a lot of broken hearts now that Ricky and I are off the market. But I always knew Ricky was the right husband for me. He's the companion I want to spend time with. my life, on and off the stage."

The play by the show's authors is part of the wave of gay marriages in New York, after the state passed a law in June.
