According to data from Civil Registration Statistics released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), gay marriage is growing at a rapid pace in Brazil. Marriage between people of different sexes fell in 2017 compared to the previous year.
Marriages between women are the most represented in the gay scene, totaling 57,5% of marriages in 2017. The southeast region is where the majority of gay marriages take place, around 60%. The northern region is where the lowest rate occurs, with only 209 unions in the region.
