The case of an assaulted teacher in São Paulo has gained prominence in the press; APOGLBT and Cads organize demonstration

The case of Alessandro Faria, known as Ali, a 39-year-old university professor, who was allegedly attacked by skinheads in the early hours of last Saturday, 10/2, is gaining more and more attention in the press. We, here at The Cape and other media aimed at the GLS public, we became aware of the case due to the blog from his friend Fabrício Mardegan, who reported the case. Last Thursday, 15/2, two notes were published in the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, one in the Cotidiano section, and the other in the column signed by Mônica Bergamo in the Ilustrada section. An article about the case was also shown on Thursday in the Globo newspaper. There, he gave more details about what happened, his mother also gave a statement. “I wanted to ask for respect. Respect because it is the only thing we can have to live well as a human being”, said Nelsa Faria de Araújo. Due to the constant attacks that are taking place against homosexuals in the city of São Paulo, the São Paulo GLBT Pride Parade Association is organizing and calling everyone to a protest next Friday 23/02 at 20pm on Rua Vieira de Carvalho. Cads – Coordination of sexual diversity issues – supports the demonstration and will also be present at the site. Both Cads and APOGLBT will distribute materials and pamphlets with telephone numbers and places to report cases of aggression of this type. On this date, the NGO launches the “Don’t be silent!” campaign. Everyone's participation is very important.
