Acilon Gonçalves (PR), mayor of the Ceará city of Eusébio, dismissed the Secretary of Culture, Léo Abreu, after complaints about a kiss between two men in an artistic performance supported by the city hall. The information is FSP.

The kiss is part of the show Erotic Circus Show, from the circus company Verticarte, which was on the program of the 20th Brazilian Juggling and Circus Convention.

The presentation took place in the early hours of last Sunday. Part of the public present criticized a kiss scene between the two actors and records of it circulated on social media.

Then, Gonçalves announced Abreu's resignation. In video published on Instagram, the mayor, without referring to the spectacle or the scene, stated: “Serious misrepresentations occurred, violating ethics, religious principles and morals. And we can never condone things like this.”

À Sheet, the organizer of the Brazilian Juggling and Circus Convention, Maurício Rodrigues, contested the mayor's decision, arguing that the show was held in a closed space, with access control and an 18 age rating. Rodrigues also said that the title of the work already made its content clear.

“It was another chapter in the scenario we are experiencing at a national level, of censorship, boycott and persecution of the arts”, he declared. Group members published a rejection note to what they called censorship and prejudice.
