Australian lesbian cyclist elected Gay Games ambassador

Australian lesbian cyclist Michelle Ferris has been named Gay Games Ambassador.

The eighth edition of the sporting event takes place in 2010 in Cologne, Germany, between the months of July and August. “The Gay Games provide the only opportunity for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender athletes from around the world to come together in celebration,” said Michelle. “We will have the opportunity to celebrate our achievements in a safe and united environment.”

In his 20-year career, Ferris won a series of silver medals at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. “The selection of Michelle Ferris as Gay Games Ambassador is a way for us to recognize her contributions to the international sporting and cultural community,” he said.
