Five of the eight accused of the murder of Dandara dos Santos were sentenced in the early hours of this Friday (6). All the defendants tried were convicted with the qualifications of a bad reason (homophobia), cruel and with no chance of defense for the victim. The sentences, however, were individualized, according to each person's participation in the crime. Francisco José Monteiro de Oliveira Junior was sentenced to 21 years in prison for shooting Dandara. Jean Victor Silva Oliveira was sentenced to 16 years for using the board in the beating. Francisco Gabriel dos Reis will serve a 16-year sentence for attacking Dandara with slippers. Finally, Isaías da Silva Camurça was punished with 14 years and 6 months for having uttered offensive words and phrases during the attack. Jean and Rafael's defenses will appeal the decision, as they understand that the sentence was high, justifying that the aggression caused by them was not decisive in Dandara's death. The trial began at 9:46 am this Thursday (5) and lasted 14 hours and 45 minutes until the sentence was read, ending around 0:30 am this Friday (6). The process took place in the 1st Jury Hall of the Clóvis Beviláqua Forum, in Fortaleza. andara dos Santos was attacked with punches, kicks and blows with a stick and stone in February 2017, in Fortaleza. The accused were convicted of a triple crime: no chance of defending the victim, base motive and cruelty. While they were beating Dandara, one of the accused filmed the crime with a cell phone, an image that was shared on social media. They confessed to participating in the attack on Dandara, but denied their intention to kill her. Of the 12 accused of participating in the crime, four are minors serving a socio-educational measure. Two are on the run. One of them, Júlio Cesar Braga, managed to be removed from the trial due to lack of evidence. Another five were tried this Thursday.
