Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes plans to marry boyfriend

Chris Hughes (in the photo, on the right.), 27-year-old Facebook co-founder plans to marry boyfriend Sean Eldridge (on the left.), political director of the North American NGO Freedom to Marry.

The couple gathered several political figures in their New York apartment last week to raise funds for the organization. "This is a very special moment for Chris and I as we celebrate our work on behalf of marriage," Eldridge said at the time. "We made our engagement official two weeks ago, so there's really a sense of urgency."

The couple, who have been together for 5 years, also said that they decided to get married during a trip to Thailand last New Year's Eve. Eldridge announced that he and Hughes will officially marry only if gay marriage is legalized in New York state. "As we know, we can't get married in New York, so it's more than urgent that we approve gay marriage," he said.

Hughes, who was called "the kid who made Obama president" for organizing the campaign website in 2008, was a Harvard colleague of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He currently presides over the website Jumo.com, a social network that brings together several human rights organizations.
