It is not new that Spain attracts Brazilian tourists. But now, with an eye on the LGBT market, the country wants to focus even more on visiting the community made up of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and trans people.
According to data from the Brazilian Tourism Association for Gays, Lesbians and Supporters (ABRAT GLS), gay tourism in Spain grows by more than 10% per year and the country is among the five favorite destinations for gays in the United States.

"Spain is a country that has everything to welcome Brazilian LGBTs. They were pioneers in the rights of this population, approving equal marriage and adoption for same-sex couples, well before many famous European destinations", he states Marta Dalla Chiesa, president of ABRAT GLS to Época magazine.
She states that the country still has destinations that are gay icons, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Ibiza and Sitges, in addition to having internationally renowned events, "for both gays and lesbians".

Elvira Marcos, director of the Spanish Tourism Office in Brazil, agrees that the country is an excellent option for LGBT people and that she wants tourists to think of the country as one of the options for international travel.
"With a consumption pattern 30% higher than heterosexuals with the same income range, tourism stands out as one of the main expenses of the gay public. Homosexuals travel up to four times more than heterosexuals. And we want that when we think On an international trip, Brazilian gay tourists know that Spain welcomes them with open arms."
