With drag football and popcorn, Blue Space celebrates 13 years of existence

Yesterday (16/03) the classic football between transformers and drag queens against the employees of the Blue Space nightclub took place. Scheduled to start at 16pm, the event was a little delayed, which apparently didn't bother anyone. The start was postponed because the sky predicted heavy rain, which, to everyone's joy, did not happen.

Around 16:40 pm, girls and "boys" started to arrive and, by that time, the crowd was already huge and the street closed. It can be risked that a thousand people passed through there. It is worth noting the strong participation of residents of the Barra Funda neighborhood, who joined in the fun along with the nightclub audience.

The mainstream press was also present in drag football. Folha de São Paulo, Rede TV!, represented by Thamy Miranda, and Otávio Mesquita, from Band, covered the event. One of the highlights was the recording of "The night is a child", with Mesquita and Silvetty Montilla exchanging costumes on stage.

During an interview with Otávio, Silvetty, with his microphone turned on, asked the audience: "Whoever thinks Otávio is a woman, give me a round of applause." The mass public responded in unison to the drag queen’s request. Then, Silvetty took to the stage to officially start the event. At that moment, the drag queen called presenter Otavio Mesquita who said he was proud because "since the 80s/90s he was the only one on television to cover topics from the gay world and the first to cover the Gay Gala". The presenter left the stage with loud applause.

With both teams ready, Silvetty introduced them. "Guys, this is the men's team. There are only transvestites!", he joked. Once the teams were introduced, judge Montilla started the match. It was just a mess. Sometimes football is played, sometimes handball. The cheerleaders caught each other slapping each other during the game, and some stopped to pose for the press.

With the first break of the game, the drums of the samba school Mocidade Alegre, champion of Carnaval Paulista 2009, gave a quick performance led by the "queen" of the school Thalia Bombinha. After everyone fell into samba, after the drumming, it was Michelly Summer's turn, accompanied by two dancers, to do a number inspired by flamenco dancing.

In the second half of the game, Thalia disappeared. However, soon after she was seen in the window of an apartment located on the street where the competition was taking place. She waved to everyone. Silvetty asked her friend to bring "popcorn" for the people, who were hungry. In fact, popcorn was offered to whoever was present.

With Thalia distributing popcorn, the game ended and was decided on penalties. In the end, the boys were declared the winners. But no one could say the exact score. Some said 42 to 6 for boys or 32 to 2 for girls…

To close, singers Joe Welch and Alex Marie took the stage and sang two songs each. Before leaving, they performed a duet, sending the audience into a frenzy. Alongside the singers, Silvetty Montilla thanked everyone for their presence and the owner of the house, Victor Basílio, for hosting the event and told the public: "Guys, after here we're all going to Blue. Even the reception is free."
