Afraid of losing rights in 2019, LGBT groups unite to hold weddings

LGBT collective wedding in São Paulo

At the end of October, the President of the OAB's diversity commission released a note suggesting that LGBT people get married this year, fearing the loss of rights after the elected president takes office. After this note, many couples began a rush to the registry offices to get married before 2019.

After a photographer announced that he would photograph some LGBT weddings for free until the end of the year, Rossanna Pinheiro from Rio decided to be part of the movement and created a Facebook page called 'LGBT Wedding'. The idea of the page is to bring together people who want to get married, with professionals who can offer their services for free or at a more affordable price, making marriages possible for those who cannot afford it.

Collective wedding in São Paulo

As the page grew, event producer Caique Paz offered to help Rossanna in this race. He managed to bring together a lot of people who were willing to help in São Paulo and even found a space to hold a collective wedding.

“Ro invited me to help take care of the page and here we managed to help a lot of people who have already gotten married and who are still going to get married in every place you can imagine”, he said. “Some couples didn’t have the financial means and came after me so I could help organize the wedding, I started looking for spaces to make available since we already had almost all the help”

When searching for spaces, the people at Casa das Caldeiras, an event space located in São Paulo, really liked the idea and provided a day to hold a collective wedding.

But not everything is simple, the space has already been provided, but they need help with raising money and help with organization.

If you are interested, they are looking for help with the wedding in São Paulo on the 16th.
