Like Xica da Silva, Silvetty Montilla lives Taís Araújo day in Carnival parade

Top drag queen Silvetty Montilla was one of the highlights of the first night of Carnival in the city of São Paulo, which took place yesterday at Anhembi. The performing presenter was invited by the Unidos do Peruche school to represent Xica da Silva in one of its wings.

At the parade, Silvetty-Xica was courted by members of the school's "LGBT" wing. Even though they did not bear the official name of the community, almost all those present represented at least one letter of the acronym. Transformers Lully Fashion, Duda Mercadoria and transsexual Marcinha were highlights of the section, not to mention the gogo boys, of course. Record the harassment of the latter, who was filmed, danced and gave interviews.

The website report The Cape He was present at the meeting of the Unidos do Peruche Samba School and exclusively followed the preparations for the performance on the avenue. The entire wing took a chartered bus to Anhembi. The meeting point, as expected, was in front of the drag artist's apartment, located in the area of Rua Vieira de Carvalho, in República, in the city center.

Silvetty was visibly tense about the responsibility of leading the ward. But, there is no denying it, she was quite happy, as she confided to the website The Cape. I could too. She watched both versions of the soap opera Xica da Silva and the film starring Zezé Mota. Asked if she is as harassed in her routine as she would be courted like Xica, Silvetty said that she is "quiet". "Imagine, I'm calm."

On stage, during her performances, it is common for Silvetty to mention actress Taís Araújo, who, among other prominent roles, was Xica da Silva in the soap opera shown on the now defunct TV Manchete in the 90s. The drag queen commented on this. "I love Taís' work, I'm in love with her talent. We know each other, of course we're not intimate, but I play with people I know I can play with. It's a way of showing admiration," she said.

When asked if it would be her Taís Araujo day – for being courted in the middle of Anhembi in the role of Xica da Silva – Silvetty was once again excited. "For sure. It's my Taís Araujo day. Then I want to take a really beautiful photo of Xica and send it to her [laughs]," he said

Before last night's big night, Silvetty and her friends held three rehearsals lasting three hours each to get the choreography right. The Xica costume worn by the drag queen is a creation by designer Pedrinho Fernandes. Unidos do Peruche was the first of the seven schools to parade on the night. Tom Maior, Mancha Verde, Rosas de Ouro, Unidos da Vila Maria, X-9 Paulistana and Nenê da Vila Matilde also passed through the Anhembi catwalk.

Anyone who thinks that only Silvetty Montilla was a gay highlight at the São Paulo Carnival in the early hours of this Saturday is mistaken. The website's report found the presence of many LGBTs at the Sambadrome. The drag-transformists Marcela do Nascimento, Rosa do Kenya, Tyra Banks and Michelly Summer, who are part of the team of headliners of the show Bem Brasil, where they dub songs by MPB performers, paraded in the fourth car of the X-9 Paulistana school – the same by Rita Cadillac. The trio where the drag queens paraded paid homage to illustrious Brazilians. Tracks with names from Carmem Miranda to Caetano Veloso, including Cazuza, Gal Costa and Gilberto Gil, could be read.

The car, in a tropical climate, was decorated with huge representations of fruit – a watermelon where the ex-chacrete stood out as a highlight, a pineapple, and two bananas that contained the phrase "Bota Camisinha Meu". Ioio Vieira da Carvalho was one of the most popular in the "fruitful car" and also of the night. The cutie managed to be photographed alongside Bombom and Viviane Araújo – queens of the Tom Maior and Mancha Verde drums, respectively.
