According to CNN, the US will deny diplomatic visas to gay companions of foreign diplomats and UN staff.

The change came into effect on Monday (1), and partners who are in the USA will have until December 31st to leave the country, get married or change their visa type.

According to the UN memo, “from October 1, 2018, gay companions who accompany or wish to join UN staff must attach proof of marriage to be eligible for a G-4 visa or must change a change of status.” .

Authorities interviewed by CNN said that this aims to equalize the requirements for heterosexual and homosexual couples.
