State LGBT Conference of SP ends in confusion and with few proposals presented

The II State LGBT Conference in São Paulo ended last Sunday (30). But, just as it began, the event ended with physical and verbal attacks. Another negative point was the proposals presented, which generated a feeling of "dejavu".

During Saturday (29), activists present met in various thematic groups (health, work, communication, culture, tourism, etc.) to debate the State Plan to Combat Homophobia, which ends this year and proposes new ideas of policies for the government of the State of São Paulo and for the National Conference, which takes place in December in Brasília.

On Sunday (30), the proposals went to vote in the final Plenary, where those present changed, suppressed or maintained the proposal presented. Much of what was prepared was highly generalized. One of the most problematic areas was in relation to communication and culture. Among the proposals was the "valorization of LGBT culture", but which niche of culture was not mentioned. At no point were community televisions, social networks and even the internet addressed as a mechanism for disseminating LGBT "culture".

Another axis with obstacles was related to health. Most of the proposals focused on creating more specific outpatient clinics for transsexuals and transvestites, but at no point did they propose to truly universalize the Unified Health System (SUS) service. Men's health was also forgotten and not a single line was mentioned.

Election
In the morning of the last day of the São Paulo LGBT Conference, the election took place to choose the delegation that will represent the state of São Paulo at the national stage in Brasília. In total, four candidates signed up.

What should have been a reason for joy and victory ended with a depressing scene. After the Organizing Committee announced the results, in which tickets 1 and 3 received the most votes, two activists had a disagreement and the scene ended in physical aggression.

The confusion occurred between trans Agatha Lima and activist Julian Rodrigues, who won with his ticket.

State Council
The most political and emotional moment of the event was when activists debated and voted on the election scheme for the State LGBT Council.

Previously, the election took place based on names nominated by NGOs from São Paulo, but some of the activists present wanted to change the rules and make the elections direct, without the intermediary of organizations. In this case, anyone can apply for the council.

With 100 votes in favor of the change against 70, the direct election for the State LGBT Council of São Paulo prevailed.

The II LGBT Conference of the State of São Paulo ended around 21 pm. The proposals are now being systematized and should form part of the second plan to combat homophobia for the state of São Paulo.
