LGBT Council surveys transsexuals who suffered medical errors

Despite being a subject rarely discussed in the media in general, it is estimated based on informal reports that medical errors in surgeries performed on transsexual women – who have undergone sexual reassignment, popularly known as "sex change" – are frequent.

The Secretariat of Justice and Citizen Defense of the State of São Paulo, through the State Council for the Rights of the LGBT Population, then calls on transgender citizens of the State of São Paulo who have suffered from gender reassignment surgery.

Such people underwent surgery, but due to omission or medical negligence, the procedure was unsuccessful and, today, they face numerous problems in relation to the procedure.

According to the President of the Council, Agatha Lima, the data collected will be used to define guidelines and next steps regarding the surgical procedure in São Paulo and guidance for people who believe they have been victims of medical error. All information will be confidential.
