Out of every 10 LGBT Brazilians, only 4 reveal their sexual orientation at work

Although 75% of companies have policies that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity e sexual orientation, Many LGBT professionals They don’t feel comfortable coming out at work.

According to a study released at the end of January by Center for Talent Innovation, 61% of LGBT employees in Brazil say they hide their sexuality from colleagues and managers.

The research was carried out in two stages and interviewed more than 12,2 professionals in countries such as China, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom, United States and the Brazil.

Of this total, 1.964 are lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans people.

No Brazil, in addition to 61% of LGBT professionals not acknowledging their sexual orientation or gender identity, 49% said they do not hide it, but do not speak openly about the subject in the workplace and change their behavior to integrate among their colleagues.

In other countries, such as South Africa, the percentage is lower, but remains close to 50%.

Our United States and England, these percentages fall to 30% and 28%, respectively.

The biggest impediment to embracing sexuality or gender identity is discrimination.

Still according to the study, despite advances in relation to the topic, homosexuality is considered a crime in 75 countries, as India, Russia and Singapore.

In eight of them, laws provide for the death penalty for those who have same-sex relationships. In these countries, the number of LGBT professionals who accept orientation drops drastically.

Among the 500 largest companies in the world, cited by Fortune, 93% prohibit any discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
