Public Defender's Office will launch booklet to end prejudice for people living with HIV/AIDS

The Public Defender's Office of the state of São Paulo, in partnership with Unaids (Joint United Nations Program to combat AIDS) and GIV (Life Incentive Group), will launch next Tuesday, 05th, a booklet “For the End of Discrimination against People Living with HIV/Aids – Law No. 12.984/14”. The initiative is from the Center for the Defense of Diversity and Racial Equality, and will take place at the Diversity Museum, located at República do Metrô Station, from 15pm. The booklet provides information about HIV and AIDS and provides guidance on the rights of people living with these conditions, presenting laws that provide protection to this public and bodies that can be contacted to seek information and help, such as the Center for the Defense of Diversity and of Racial Equality of the Defender's Office, GIV and Unaids. Federal Law 12.984/14 criminalizes discrimination against people living with HIV or AIDS, with a prison sentence of one to four years and a fine. São Paulo State Law 11.199/02, which also prohibits discrimination against this population, provides for fines for companies or entities governed by private law and administrative punishments for public servants who break the law.
