Deputy calls gays sick and bill that punishes discrimination in RJ is off the agenda

The session that discussed the bill that punishes establishments and public agents for discrimination based on sexual orientation, in the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), was marked by boos for deputy Edino Fonseca (PEN), who insinuated that homosexuality would be a disease .

Authored by the Executive, the project received 177 amendments and will be forwarded to the committees for analysis. In other words, he went back to square one with no plans to be voted on again in Alerj.

“No owner is obliged to leave a person with this pathology in their establishment”, declared deputy Edino Fonseca shortly before starting the session.

Militants and defenders of the LGBT cause began to boo the parliamentarian with shouts of “fascist” and “you are sick”.
Representative Clarissa Garotinho (PR) was also against the project. Using religious arguments, Clarissa stated that the PL “promotes LGBT attitudes”.

“I have my understanding of the Bible. Jesus preached tolerance. No discrimination is also a principle of Christianity. We cannot let a person suffer violence for any reason. This project does not discuss whether homosexuality [sic] is a disease or not. But it promotes LGBT gender attitudes,” he declared.
