Peruvian deputy must present bill to approve gay marriage

Peruvian deputy José Vargas, from the American Popular Revolutionary Alliance, was inspired by Argentina's decision and will present a bill to regulate civil unions between people of the same sex in the country.

"Gay couples would be granted the same rights that couples in heterosexual unions already have, that is, rights of a patrimonial nature as in a property society", explained José Vargas.

According to the deputy, his project seeks to avoid inequalities and discrimination against the LGBT population. "They also have the same rights as anyone else, such as equality and non-discrimination, a clause included in our Constitution and international human rights treaties," he said.
