Unique skin health challenges faced by LGBT+ people

LGBT+ people often face unique and specific challenges related to skin health. Some of these challenges are a direct result of both the personal care practices used by the LGBT+ community, and the prejudice and stress faced in this heteronormative society.

Experts emphasize that the skin health challenges faced by LGBT+ people can vary. For example, individuals who undergo hormone therapy as part of their gender transition may experience acne, changes in body hair, and other skin problems. Regular waxing, which is often practiced by LGBT+ individuals, can also lead to skin irritation and ingrown hairs.

Another important issue is the fact that many LGBT+ individuals can face a great deal of stress and anxiety due to the discrimination they face, resulting in stress-induced skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
