Desperate Housewives will have a gay couple in the next season

Marc Cherry, writer and producer of the American series “Desperate Housewives”, declared in an interview with the gay website AfterElton that the series will have a gay couple in its next season.

A new couple of neighbors will arrive on Wisteria Lane, the street where the canned goods plot unfolds. The newly arrived residents will settle near Susan’s house – Teri Hatcher – and will have conflicts with the character.

Brees

This is not the first time the series has addressed the topic. Young Andrew Van De Kamp – Shawn Pyfrom – had his difficulties when trying to tell his mother, Bree – Marcia Cross -, that he was gay. The character’s life may become “spicier” with the arrival of new neighbors.

Coincidence or not, it is worth mentioning that in the cinema, actress Felicity Huffman played Bree Osbourne, a transsexual about to undergo sex change surgery, in the film Transamerica.

The series will also have its national version. Produced by Buena Vista International Television, in partnership with RedeTV!, the Brazilian episodes of the series were renamed “Donas de Casa Desesperadas”. The episodes were recorded in Argentina and feature big names such as Lucélia Santos and Sônia Braga in the cast.

The first 23 episodes of the series should be shown on Sundays on Rede TV! at 22pm. The broadcaster's intention is to launch the plot now, in the first half of August.
